Charlotte Family Housing is excited to announce that as of Monday, July 1st, Stephen Smith is our new Executive Director. After serving as the Associate Executive Director of the agency for the last four months, Stephen is prepared to lead the agency as we continue to see an increase in homeless families in our community. Our shelter-to-housing program for working, homeless families is entirely empowerment-driven and is producing deep and measurable change with the families we serve. During our last fical year, CFH sheltered and housed over 800 mothers, fathers and children.
“I have been a fan of Charlotte Family Housing and its predecessor organizations for many years. The passion, skillset and commitment of our dedicated employees and volunteers is inspiring. I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this organization and pledge to be a great steward of the people, provision and programs which are vital to fulfilling our mission of empowering homeless families to achieve long term self-sufficiency.”
Stephen graduated from Oberlin College and obtained his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University. Originally from northwestern Pennsylvania, Stephen spent most of his adult life in Cleveland, Ohio, where he practiced law and worked in the financial services industry as an advisor to America’s wealthiest families. He moved to Charlotte in 2008 to join Calibre, a division of Wachovia Wealth Management.
Stephen made a Halftime® transition in 2010 by redefining success and re-orienting his focus toward second-half significance. He served as the Executive Director of The Harvest Center of Charlotte for two years before joining CFH. Stephen has been happily married to Wendi, his college sweetheart, for many years, and they are the parents of three fantastic children.
Darren Ash, who served as a volunteer Executive Director of CFH for the past two years, will stay on as a continued volunteer with the agency to focus on the distinct priorities of housing, development and strategic partnerships.
With Stephen in charge, Darren will have more time to relax.
